Glass repair job on a antique clock face?
I inherited a very nice gold-toed art deco clock recently. Due to a terrible moving accident, the face of the clock which is a large circular piece of thin clear glass cracked/split in two. How do I even go about trying to get this fixed? The clock is little but very heavy (5-7 pounds I am guessing) and I would prefer not to have to ship it as the shipping costs would be hefty alone & that would not include the price to get this split on the clock’s face fixed furthermore. I live about 40 min south of Ithaca, NY anybody know of either a particular or just a general place I can go to? In advance, thank you for answering this inquiry
Call several glass companies and explain to them that you have an antique clock (I assume the glass has no bubbles in the actual glass?) If you still have the glass – that would be even better – take it in to the glass companies to show them what kind of glass it is – they can usually order the replacement glass and install it for a small fee. Make sure it is the same kind of glass that was in there to begin with – or at least something very similar or it will bring down the value of the clock itself. If the glass companies cannot get the glass in from a local place – see if they can order it from the only place I know that carries that type of glass – it’s in Cocoa Beach, Florida that they can get it from… If they cannot install it to the original way (without altering the framing around on the clock to install the glass) , take the piece of glass that they got for you to a local clock master and have them install it!
